PR Blog Spotlight: Higher & Higher

Dec. 4, 2010, by Jasper | tags: blogs, spotlight

The prhamster blog directory features almost 300 public relations blogs and new ones are added weekly so you can keep exploring. But from time to time, we want to give you a more comprehensive introduction on a certain PR blog.

Today, the spotlight is on the communications blog Higher & Higher by Petya N. Georgieva. I first discovered the blog through a tweet of 14 great ad slogans in two words which remains one of my favorite posts: it's brief, simple but conveys the importance and potential of a good branding strategy wonderfully. With a few exceptions, I am not (yet) overly impressed with the quality of most PR blogs that I come across. Higher & Higher turned out to be one of the exceptions and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

The following profile is based on a short interview with Petya and a review of her posts.

what would you write about?

amuse me, make an impression,

Petya aims for frequent updates and focuses 100 percent on PR and communications. In that sense, her blog is comparable to Brad Phillips' Mr Media Training or Gini Dietrich's Spin Sucks.

Indeed, all three of these blogs aim for a combination of advice on PR and regularly post video's of examples of campaigns, ads, or - in the case of Brad Philips - spokespeople. In addition, both Higher&Higher and Mr Media Training make use of a "friday mashup" to end the week with a good dose of links and "best ofs", and keep the update frequency high.

What sets your blog apart from all the other PR blogs out there?

"I write with passion and interest but I know that there are so many great PR blogs which I read with pleasure so I will let my readers specify exactly what sets Higher & Higher apart"

The Case Study

"Recently I learned about the Swedish Health Insurance System campaign '100 old things for 100 new ideas' which was organized in Sweden. The aim of the campaign was to change the negative image of the system and the core idea of the initiative was based on crowd sourcing. This is a good example of integrated campaign which is based on the engagement marketing and interactive communications with the public. In addition, I like the way they combined new and traditional media."

What's the biggest misconception you have heard about PR lately?

"The PR profession is easy one - it is all about parties, e-mails and phone calls." Really?! Unfortunately, this is a very very polished and wrong perception of the PR profession."
